North Shore Lab Services
NSCH strives to provide the North Shore, MA community with comprehensive care through laboratory services and blood drawing. We will work with primary care doctors to ensure a smooth process from blood draws to lab results.
Blood Drawing Labs
Patients get blood drawn for various reasons. These laboratory services check for diseases and conditions, help monitor chronic conditions, evaluate organ function, and check the effectiveness of treatments or medicines.
Our blood drawing labs promote safe and effective procedures. Before your blood test, you should avoid eating food eight to twelve hours before your appointment, drink plenty of water, bring snacks after your procedure, and have a lab order ready from your provider. The procedure will take around fifteen minutes at most. During your blood draw, the phlebotomist will gently press their fingers against your skin to find the best vein. From there, they will use gloves to clean the area, tie a tourniquet around your upper arm to increase blood flow, have you make a fist, and then insert the needle. Once the blood test is over, the phlebotomist will remove the needle, hold a gauge against the puncture site, and ask you to apply pressure. If you feel dizzy afterward, you can remain in the chair until it passes. This is when you can eat your snacks and drink water to help subside the dizziness.
It is not always easy to schedule and commute to get blood drawn. At North Shore Community Health, we give individuals the opportunity to draw blood with the utmost convenience.
